We’re all about authentic costumes from all official works about the Star Wars universe. If you want to build an accurate costume that is very close to the original costume, then you’ve come to the right place. When you have a finished costume, that’s when things really get started. You can begin trooping with us at a variety of Star Wars related events and charity events.

Builders Academy
Our Bluegrass Garrison 501st Academy group on Facebook is another excellent place to start. Post questions, view other people's builds, and learn more about the process.
Step 1
Get Connected
The first step to joining the Bluegrass Garrison family is to get connected with us! You can join our Discord server to chat with members directly or join our Academy Facebook group to ask questions and see how other people are building their costumes. You can also join the various 501st detachment forums to get information from the entire legion worldwide.
Step 2
Pick your costume
There are hundreds of costumes to pick from. Head over to the 501st Costume Referance Library (CRL) and browse through the approvable costumes.
Step 3
Plan your journey
Our members and the 501st Legion have a plethora of knowledge for building just about any Star Wars costume ever designed. Talk to the community and our members to find out who to buy from, how to make parts, and what you should expect.
Step 4
Attend armor parties
Attend armor parties to work on your costume as a community. Learn from others, strengthen our community, and get help completing your goals. These are organized in our Discord server so be sure to keep an eye on it.
Step 5
Submit your application
When your costume meets the CRL requirements and is fully assembled you are ready to submit your application. Submit your information and application photos though the 501st online forum.
Step 6
Troop!
Costumes want to be worn! Attend conventions, appearances, photo shoots, and other events with other members.
